Alpine skiing is downhill. Nordic is cross-country. You go Alpine skiing in the mountains, with chairlifts, and full foot bindings. Nordic is on the flat trails, up and down, and on lakes and rivers. Alpine is alot of fun if you are a social person, and you like speed and making turns. But I'm kind of a hermit so I mostly go XCskiing on the river in the middle of the night when it's like 20below, and nobody is around. well, have fun whatever kind of skiing you do!
References :
Ok, let me elaborate on what the previous guy just said. Alpine is my area of expertise. It includes much of recreational skiing, when you go to a resort, get on a lift, and let gravity take you down the hill from the top. All types of ski racing, which includes slalom, GS, super-G and DH, (or slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom, and downhill-- do you understand why we use abreviations? :)) are considered Alpine events. Nordic is cross country, which is classifyed by distance. Cross country skis and bindings are considerably different from Alpine skis.
