I've skied at Brianhead (Utah), Heavenly (Tahoe), and several resorts in Colorado. The snow is different, but can be nice. I think the powder in Colorado and Utah can be VERY nice (and dry!). They don't call it "Sierra cement" for nothing.

There's lots of towns that support the major resorts at Tahoe. The views are wonderful - I mean, snow-covered mountains with a massively big alpine lake down below. Fantastic!
References :
There is good skiing at Heavenly Valley. They used to call themselves America's largest ski area. I'm not sure if they still do but while it is a good sized place them calling themselves the largest was ridiculous. The view of the lake from the top of the California side is fabulous. There is also good skiing at Northstar at Tahoe.
References :
tahoe is actually quite a long drive from vegas but is only 30 minutes from reno but south tahoe has a really nice casino and the town and lake are really pretty. I think it's much more scenic than park city.you've probably heard of sierra cement but really most days the snow it great and you really have a great choice of resorts with 7 surrounding the lake. my favorites being heavenly and mt rose. I prefer south tahoe to north T mostly because of the nightlife and restaurants but the skiing on either side of the lake is 1st class
