We are thinking about going after christmas. Where is the best place to go?
This is very hard to answer because you don’t state your priorities. It depends so much upon the type of experience you want.
The major resort feel that you get at Vail, Aspen, and Park City Ut. for example, are the kind of things that you read about in the magazines. You will get good snow, the most nightlife and shopping etc. in those places.
The mid size resorts like Steamboat, Snowmass, or Deer Valley Ut. among others will give you less of the apres ski activities (still good, just not as much of it) than the majors, but the skiing is just as good for most appetites.
Then you have the “skiers” mountains. These will be more oriented toward more serious skiing and less of the other stuff. Those might include Crested Butte, Winter Park or Snowbird and Solitude in Ut.
There are many others as well and you’ll have great fun at all of them….just depends upon the flavor of fun you want.

I would have to say Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I highly recommend not going to the major resorts everyone has heard of such as Vail, Aspen, Telluride as all of these are highly over priced, crowded, and just snobby. If you want to go smaller, you may want to try Powderhorn near Grand Junction, CO.
However, I don’t know anything about Utah resorts.
