Part of a good marketing mix would be a PR campaign due to the unique nature of your store for starters. You can target market in your local area via Google AdWords and start some local sponsorships of certain sporting events. You seem to know your demography so see about having fliers advertisements located in malls and other areas your target audience would frequent.
Tying in promotional sales incentives to new customers can cause some word of mouth buzz as well as increase store customers.

you've just told me your marketing strategy, extreme sports for young women and men in and around SLC, sounds great, I'm in Davis county, and I run a business, three words will make or break your store, WORD OF MOUTH!!!
We had no money what so ever for advertising, we just opened the doors and turned on the neon open sign, it was rough going at first, but eventually our customers would tell someone, and they'd tell someone and so on and so on, your customer's word of mouth is your most valuable advertising, and it's FREE!!
Utahns are into extreme sports, you just need to do something fresh to stand out from the other stores that are similar, I suggest doing ALOT of research, go into all these bike shops, and ski/snowboard shops, etc.. see what they're doing that works, and do it bigger and better, Good Luck!!
