During the summer, there's lots of hiking and beautiful scenery to be seen. There's also the hot springs pool down the road in Glenwood Springs, which they say is the largest one in the world. They are not big cities by any means. There are some shops, and some good food that you will pay a lot for and wait a long time for - heck one of the ski runs either ends or starts by a grocery store. Depending on when you go and if you'll have a car - you might want to look up Anderson Ranch in Snowmas to see if thay have any exhibits - that was interesting if you like Art.
